To launch their new line of Pork Jerky, the freaks over at BaconFreak.com created an amazing jerky sandwich and let their fans choose its name. The sandwich’s main ingredient is their new Western Pork Jerky, a tender, meaty jerky with tons of BBQ flavor. In addition to the jerky, the sandwich also has mayo, tomato, French’s crispy onions, mashed potatoes and BBQ sauce, sandwiched between white bread. After assembly, the whole thing is deep-fried to perfection.
Fans came up with plenty of creative names for this deep-fried beauty. Choosing a winner was too difficult, so they left it to their fans to decide. The name with the most votes was “The Porkfect Sandwich,” submitted by Tina Kubiak. In second place was “The Irresistible Jerk” by Angela Katt Soule. Third place went to Joshua St. John with “The Dirty Piggy.” The lucky winners were sent packs of all four flavors of the jerky. Here’s a photo of Tina enjoying the spoils of victory!
Want to make this “porkfect” sandwich at home? Here is the recipe!
2 slices toasted bread
1 Tomato, sliced
1 package Bacon Freak’s Western Pork Jerky
1 package French’s crispy onions
1/4 cup Garlic Mashed Potatoes
1 quart oil for frying, or as needed
2/3 cup water
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1. Prepare the batter: Heat up oil in a deep fryer or deep pan to 365 degrees F. Whisk together water and egg. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper in separate bowl. Whisk dry ingredients into egg mixture until smooth. Keep in the fridge until you are ready to fry.
2. Assemble the sandwich: Spread some BBQ sauce on one slice of bread. Layer on some crispy onions, then some mashed potatoes. Add jerky (jerky can be hard to bite off in a sandwich, so you may want to cut up the jerky into smaller pieces so it’s easier to eat) then layer a few tomatoes on top. Spread a little mayo on the other piece of bread, then top off sandwich. Cut in half or quarters, then secure with a toothpick in each section.
3. Deep-fry the sandwich: Dip each section of sandwich into the batter, completely coating it. Carefully place in hot oil until each side is golden brown. Set on cooking rack to drain oil, remove toothpick. Serve immediately. For porkfect presentation, drizzle a little BBQ sauce on top. Enjoy!
