International Bacon Day

When is International Bacon Day?

International Bacon Day is celebrated on the first Saturday before Labor Day in the United States. Yes, an “international” day based on another U.S. holiday…it’s not the most logical thing ever conceived, but since it’s about the celebration of bacon, we’ll be sure to enjoy the day every year.

  • International Bacon Day 2022: September 3
  • International Bacon Day 2023: September 2
  • International Bacon Day 2024: August 31
  • International Bacon Day 2025: August 30

Are you excited? You should be excited!

It comes but once a year, folks. Like Christmas. Or Super Bowl Sunday. Or Thanksgiving. Only this holiday is ALL ABOUT THE BACON.

One day a year to truly celebrate your love for bacon. Think of all the turkey you eat on Thanksgiving–and you don’t even really like turkey!

But you love bacon, and you need to do right by bacon on bacon’s special day. Don’t hold back on bacon’s holiday.

Break out of your usual bacon routine. Give everything you can to bacon on this day of all days, and make bacon proud.

Fryin’ up some store-bought bacon and eating it with your eggs isn’t gonna cut it. Not this time. Not on Bacon’s Day!

10. Cure your own bacon

It’s not hard to make your own bacon. Really, it’s not.

Imagine being able to determine exactly how your bacon tastes, and exactly how thick each slice is. It all starts with an uncured slab of bacon.

You can get one at your grocery store or from your local butcher. He or she will probably be so happy that you’re asking for a slab of bacon, they’ll probably strike up a conversation with you about it and offer their advice on how to cure it. Or you can read this previous post about how to cure bacon.

9. Eat Bacon With Every Meal

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Start off the morning by cookin’ up a pound (or 2 or 3 or 7) of bacon and add it to your meals throughout the day.

Bacon and eggs for breakfast. A BBBBBLT for lunch. Candied bacon for a snack and some bacon-wrapped filet for dinner.

See how easy it is? If you don’t want to cook at all, find some bacon at restaurants near you!

8. Join a Bacon of the Month Club

Is there anything better than getting bacon delivered to you every month? There’s really nothing better that I can think of. Unless magical bacon elves could also show up at your door and cook the bacon for you.

Sign up for a Bacon of the Month Club ahead of time, so you have plenty of bacon on hand for International Bacon Day — or sign up on International Bacon Day in honor of your favorite meat.

4. Make a Bacon Dessert

If you’ve never tried a bacon dessert, what are you waiting for?

If you think that bacon and sweets don’t go together, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Because savory salty bacon just loves some sweet sugar accompaniment.

For those who love dark chocolate and nuts in their dessert, try our Candied Bacon and Nut Fudge recipe.

Need a gluten-free recipe? Try our Peanut Butter & Bacon Cookies! Or go All-American with our Bacon Weave Apple Pie. Or try Maple Bacon Caramels.

3. Throw a Bacon Tasting Party

When the theme is Bacon, there’s no limit to the types of parties that you can throw. Have a bacon tasting party!

Buy several different types of bacon, cook them up, and sample all the different flavors of bacon.

Pair each bacon flavor with a specific dish or appetizer. Or pair bacon and wine. Or bacon and beer! Or bacon and cocktails, utilizing some of that bacon infused-booze you created in #6 (see above).

2. Create Your Own Bacon Recipe

What’s your second favorite food? You know, the one that comes right after bacon?

Okay, whatever that food is, imagine how much better it would be with your first favorite food. If you answered “chocolate,” make some chocolate covered bacon.

If you said “cheese,” make some cheesy bacon bombs.

If you said PB&J, make a PBB&J. Heck, make a PBBBBBB&J!

How To Celebrate International Bacon Day

Instead of us giving you ideas on how to celebrate International Bacon Day, we thought we’d let our fans give their ideas instead!

We asked folks on our Facebook page how they celebrate International Bacon Day (IBD) and we received a ton of amazing feedback about how they will be celebrating IBD. Here and just a handful of ideas for celebrating International Bacon Day:

“We are throwing another bacon party. This year is the 3rd. About 20 people attend bringing any dish with bacon. Last year I made the chicken bacon wraps and chocolate dipped candy bacon strips. Mmmm Bacon!”

“Since it is also my birthday, I plan to have some Bacon chocolate chip cookies made with a shot of Maker’s Mark!”

“By smoking some bacon in my smoker and adding it to almost everything I cook that day! Maybe even put some in ice cream!”

“We are having a cookout. I’m making bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and bacon wrapped scallops and jalapeños. We will have about 20-30 people and they are to bring a side that MUST HAVE BACON IN IT!”

“I work for a public radio station, so I’m celebrating Bacon Day with eight on-air announcements encouraging people to put a little more meat candy in their lives with a link to the Bacon Today blog!”

“Wake up to a bacon-featured breakfast, followed by Facebooking my latest bacon finds, followed by a BBBLT, because a single portion of bacon is ludicrous. Then maybe a nap so I can dream of bacon, followed by a bacon-wrapped something with a bacon-infused sauce. Dessert will have bacon mixed in and sprinkled on top. At that point, all I’ll be able to do is pass out due to my self-induced bacon-o-thon, but I’m not complaining. And since my doctor may read this, I will follow this day with a mega workout so I may eat more bacon at will.”

“I will be celebrating International Bacon Day by attending San Diego’s 2nd annual Bacon Fest. I will be introducing my boyfriend to this wonderful event as well. My plan so far is to wear my specially-selected apparel (a t-shirt that reads ‘this girl loves bacon’) and to eat and/or drink all the bacon delicacies that are available to me. I can honestly say that International Bacon Day is my favorite holiday!”

“I will recite all the lyrics to “Rappers Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang, but instead of the normal lyrics, “I don’t mean to brag, I don’t mean to boast, but we’re like hot butter on your breakfast toast…” I will substitute the lyrics, “I am sick with gout, my doctor’s not fakin’, my LDL’s so high because I’m crazy for bacon.”
