The Saturday before Labor Day is a day designated as the annual International Bacon Day. There are bacon parties, bacon tastings and some bacon lovers achieve incorporating bacon into every meal of the day. A delectable concoction of chocolate, caramel, bacon and peanuts.  This dessert recipe is as delicious as it is easy to make. You don’t even need to turn on the oven.

Bacon Bark

Ingredients: Bacon (about 3/4 pound), 12 oz. package of milk chocolate chips, 1/2 cup chopped peanuts, 6 soft caramel candies, sea salt, waxed paper lined baking sheet

Cook bacon until crispy. Remove from heat and after cooling crumble into “bacon bits”. Melt chocolate chips in a medium microwave-safe bowl by microwaving for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring the chocolate every 20 seconds until it is the right consistency for pouring. Pour the melted chocolate onto a waxed paper covered baking sheet. Tap the baking sheet on the counter to even out the melted chocolate. Immediately sprinkle the crumbled bacon and the chopped peanuts evenly over the chocolate. Lightly press the bacon and nuts to ensure that they are partially embedded in the chocolate. Allow the chocolate to fully harden, place in refrigerator to speed the hardening process. Once hardened melt the caramels the same way you melted the chocolate (1-2 minutes in microwave, stirring every 20 seconds), then drizzle the melted caramel onto the chocolate.
