This is not your grandmother’s bake-off; this is a BAC-ON! Sugardale Foods presents The Great Sugardale BAC-ON!, a bacon cooking competition, on November 6, 2010 in conjunction with GoodTaste! Pittsburgh.

The finalist’s recipes will be evaluated on first impression, taste, overall impression, originality, and presentation by celebrity judges such as Spike Mendelsohn (Top Chef: Season 4), Claire Robinson (Food Network), Chris Fennimore (WQED), and Derek Stevens (Executive Chef of Eleven).

The bacon craze has inspired the United States. From bacon baklava and bacon cocktail infusions to bacon sushi, the phenomenon has captivated our culture. It’s no surprise that the competition captured national interest as contestants entered their unique recipes from New York, Florida, Colorado, and California, as well as Pittsburgh.

Watch the live competition as contestants prepare dishes like Butterscotch Cheesecake in a Bacon Cup and Bacon-wrapped Filet Mignon with Cabernet-Cognac sauce. Visitors to GoodTaste! Pittsburgh can watch the competition live and sample delicious bacony treats from Sugardale like Bacon Brittle—a sweet and smoky twist on traditional peanut brittle. Here is the recipe for Butterscotch Cheesecake in a Bacon Cup by Dee G. of Acworth, GA. The ingredients and instructions are listed below.

Ingredients15 strips of Sugardale Ready Bacon
4 ounces cream cheese
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
¼ cup butterscotch chips
  1. Cut 1/4 of bacon off slice.
  2. Take long strips and round in mini muffin pans.
  3. Dice remaining bacon. Place some diced bacon on bottom of tin.
  4. Melt chips in microwave. Carefully watch and stir to ensure it does not burn.
  5. In a bowl, mix room temperature cream cheese, brown sugar, vanilla, and egg. Whisk in melted butterscotch. Add reserved chopped bacon.
  6. Spoon cream cheese into bacon “Cups”.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Enjoy!
