In case you don’t believe that bacon is indeed healthy for you, here’s a story that might convince you. The world’s oldest woman swears that eating bacon every day is the key to a long, happy life. Susannah Mushatt Jones, who turned 116 in July, has had the same breakfast every day for decades: bacon, eggs and grits. A sign in her kitchen reads: “Bacon makes everything better.”

Recently named the world’s oldest living woman, Jones also gives credit to getting “lots of sleep.” Her family says she has lived a long life due to her love of family and generosity to others.

Jones was born on a farm town in Alabama on July 6, 1899. She was one of 11 children. When she graduated from high school in 1922, Jones worked full time helping family members pick crops. She left after a year to begin working as a nanny, heading to New Jersey and eventually making her way to New York.

“She adored kids,” Jones’ niece, Lois Judge, told the Daily Record of her aunt though Jones never had children of her own and was married for only a few years.

So the next time someone tells you your love for bacon is unhealthy, just tell them that Susannah Mushatt Jones is proof that long life and a love for bacon go hand in hand.

I love getting articles like the story of Susannah Jones! Far, far too much “news” is intentionally about the worst of the worst, of the worst, in the world. I want MORE “feel good news” like this!
