Bacon Marinara Sauce
This homemade Bacon Marinara Sauce recipe can be used instead of regular marinara in a multitude of recipes. Add it to your homemade pizza dough to make a bacon-infused pizza pie. Use it as a dipping sauce for mozzarella sticks or in a calzone. It can also be used in lasagna or as a pasta sauce for your favorite pasta. Experiment with your favorite combination of herbs and spices. The sky is the limit! Extra sauce can be preserved by using traditional canning methods.
4 lbs. of Roma tomatoes
1 tsp. oregano
3 tsp. kosher salt
2 tsp. onion powder
6 cooked, chopped slices of Boss Hog Hickory Smoked Country Bacon
2 Tbsp. bacon grease
1 can tomato paste (with lowest amount of sugar possible)
1. Core, seed and chop the tomatoes. Add to a medium sized pot, and add everything else except the can of tomato paste and the cooked bacon strips.
2. Bring sauce to a light boil then reduce heat to simmer.
3. Simmer on low heat for at least 4 hours stirring occasionally, being careful not to let the tomatoes burn.
4. Add the cooked bacon during the last 30 min. of cook time. Add the can of tomato paste to thicken the sauce. Remove from heat and serve. Leftover sauce may be canned using proper canning techniques.
