Bacon Flavored Pizza Crust
Want to add more bacon flavor to your pizza? Of course you do. You. Are. Awesome!! And you obviously love bacon just as much as we do. So use some of that bacon grease we know you’ve got stocked in your fridge, and use it to make your own pie crust from scratch. Add some homemade bacon marinara if you so desire, then add your favorite toppings. It’s molto bene! That’s Italian for bomb dot com. FYI.
One .25 oz. pack of active dry yeast
1 tsp. white sugar
1 cup warm water (110° F)
2 ½ cups bread flour
2 Tbsp. bacon grease
1 tsp. salt
1. Preheat oven to 450° F. In a medium bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
2. Stir in flour, salt and grease. Beat until smooth. Let rest for 5 minutes.
3. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat or roll into a round. Grease a large bowl with olive oil. Add the dough, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow it to rise, about one hour. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 2 equal pieces. Cover each with a clean kitchen towel and let rest for 10 min.
4. Transfer crust to a lightly greased pizza pan or baker’s peel dusted with cornmeal. Spread with desired toppings and bake in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let baked pizza cool for 5 minutes before serving.
