Delicious, Delicate, and Dainty. These are words you can normally associate with the ever-popular Cupcake. And you know in our world, we like to make sure the desserts we put in our mouths include the words Salty, Smoky, and Scrumptious in there as well. Cupcakes have been growing in popularity for many years, and they continue to get more and more attention with each and every sugary bite. We’ve seen the same thing in our wonderful world of bacon. It’s not hard to see why these two things would end up colliding together into one little explosion of flavor and we’re not the only ones to see this pair as a match made in Hog Heaven.
A couple weeks back my sister sent me an excited text message telling me that her favorite cupcakery, Sprinkles®, is launching their own take on the Maple Bacon Cupcake. Once I read the word “Bacon”, I was sold and told her that we HAD to go and get some and tell everyone about them. If you’ve never heard about Sprinkles®, we’re sorry to hear that. Sprinkles® launched their Maple Bacon cupcake just in time for International Bacon Day in late August. We headed down to the Sprinkles® in Beverly Hills (only an hour or so from us) to get a dozen of those little bacon-filled beauties (and another box of their other tasty flavors) so that we could share with all our sugar-sweet readers just how yummy these cupcakes are. These little fellas are made with the highest quality ingredients (like all of their flavors) and start with a simple dense cake that’s still delicate when you bite into it. This particular cake is flavored with hints of maple, brown sugar, and bits of perfectly cooked bacon bits (and we mean BACON bits, not soy bits). To match these savory sweet flavors, they top this cupcake off with one of my personal favorite frostings, cream cheese frosting! But wait up, this cream cheese frosting has been infused with tons of maple flavor, creating the perfect combination of creamy cheese and rich sweet flavors. Taking a bite out of this cake will definitely satisfy your sweet AND your salty tooth.
Now, we know Sprinkles® isn’t available in all areas, but they are working on opening more and more locations across the country. They currently have locations in LA, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Georgetown, and quite a few other locations (you can find more locations HERE). If you live within driving distance of any of these locations, we highly recommend that you plan a day trip to get the full Sprinkles® experience.
