The Bacon Diet

There are many diets out there in the world. Everyone’s looking for that shortcut; that way to lose ten pounds within a week. “Oh my God, I have a wedding to go to this weekend and I need to look good! My ex will be there! I have to get rid of these ten pounds by then! Help!”

There definitely are some “get thin” quick routes. Unfortunately none of them are very healthy and most will have you piling the weight back on when you return to your regular eating habits. So when we talk about a bacon diet, this isn’t one of those: “You can get super thin fast with eating just bacon!” articles. No. Stop. That’s just stupid. Please don’t ever think that this would be possible.

So this is where you ask: What is this ‘Bacon Diet’ you speak of? I’m imagining strips of bacon for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Can bacon really be a part of a healthy diet?

The answer is: Yes, it can. As long as you’re not trying to immediately lose weight, you can incorporate bacon into your diet. Believe it or not, it’s usually best to choose bacon when you’re faced between a side of sausage or bacon. Although both meats are high in fat and saturated fat, two links of sausage will cost you a bit more in calories and fat than three strips of bacon. 2 pork sausage breakfast links (45 g) have 140 calories, 12 grams fat, 4 grams saturated fat, 30 mg cholesterol, 7 grams protein, and 310 mg sodium. 3 hickory smoked bacon strips, pan-fried (26 g) have 120 calories, 9 grams fat, 3.8 grams saturated fat, 30 mg cholesterol, 7.5 grams protein, and 435 mg sodium.

However, (Ugh, you knew there was a catch, didn’t you?), you should try not to indulge on bacon everyday. When you do treat yourself, keep the serving size small, and include antioxidant-rich fruits or vegetables in the meal. Cut down on eating other processed meats such as ham, sausage, hot dogs, bologna, salami, pepperoni, and pastrami. Processed meats are any meat that is preserved with smoking, curing or salting. When you do indulge in the sultry bacon, chop or crumble it, so one slice goes a long way. Bacon is still a good source of protein. Therefore add it to your salads. It’s also best to use real bacon as opposed to the bacon bits.

In conclusion: If any site boasts having a Bacon Diet plan, run away. Run far, far away. Bacon isn’t called the meat candy for no reason at all. Just like candy, it’s addicting and should be enjoyed in moderation if you’re worried about your weight (or cholesterol, for that matter). If you’re not, then we envy you and say, “Enjoy that meat candy! Enjoy it damn it!”

    Oh, come on, stop being lazy and do your research! Eating lots of bacon will NOT make you fat, or raise your cholesterol. There is actually a guy who ate 2 pounds of bacon per day for 30 days straight. He lost 18 pounds of body FAT and his blood test and liver markers came out great. Lose the bread, sugar, pasta and potatoes, and you’ll be fine.
