Bacon in Virginia

I recently took a trip to the east coast and spent some time in the small town of Mineral, VA. While there I shopped at the Food Lion grocery store. My trip was very short, so I didn’t get a chance to cook up any of the local bacon and taste what Virginia had to offer.

Here are some photos of the bacon selection in the Food Lion. If anyone knows how these bacon varieties taste, please let us know. I’d like to know what to choose the next time I’m down in Mineral.

  • VA bacon fan says:

Gwaltney is the best, comes from Smithfield VA which is like Pork World Headquarters. my personal choice would be that brown sugar variety.

I grew up near Smithfield and was shocked when I moved away to find out that I had been living in a bacon paradise for years, I thought that it was just normal to have pork everywhere all the time!
