Day 4 of “The 12 Days of a Bacon-Wrapped Christmas“ brings us bacon-wrapped Alphatots (AKA Tater Tots).
The true master of bacon-wrapped tots is Heather over at BaconUnwrapped.com, but we couldn’t find any wild boar bacon and had to improvise with some traditional pork bacon.
We used Farmer John Premium Thick Sliced Bacon for our wrapped tots.
We used the WowBacon microwave cooker to pre-cook the bacon a bit since the tots don’t require all that long in the oven.
We couldn’t find any traditional tater tots at Henry’s Farmers Market, but we did find these fun “alphatots” from Ian’s that would do the trick.
What better to spell for this recipe that BACON.
Suddenly we had bacon-wrapped B-A-C-O-N.
After the recommended time in the oven, the alphatots were a nice golden brown and the bacon was right at my preferred crispness. I must say though that Ian’s Alphatots are not that tasty on their own and even when wrapped in bacon they leave a bit to be desired. Soley wrapped in bacon this combo earns a Smaste™ rating of 29.687. I’m sure we could get that rating up in to the 30’s if we used some spices and sauces…maybe next year!
