OK, well, the extremely biased opinions of the various “beef boards, fish factions, and chicken coalition’s” have had their free reign for the last 50 years, so I think it’s finally time to hear what the actual doctors, nutritionists, University studies and medical tests have to say on the matter of bacon’s nutritional benefits to our health.
Here is a list of the Top 10 Reasons why bacon is actually healthy for you!
Pork Powered Protein: The protein found in bacon is extremely valuable to maintaining our energy levels and a fully functioning, healthy body, with a minimum of those nasty, waist, thigh and butt expanding, fat building carbohydrates.
Bacon’s Blood Balancing Bounty: Several university and medical center studies have shown that including bacon as a regular, moderate pat of one’s diet, actually naturally works to lower the bodies blood pressure and blood sugar levels, helping to prevent and / or alleviate the effects of diabetes, as well as heart disease, stroke and heart attack.
Flushing Fat With Flavorful, Friendly Flesh: While people have heard horror stories for years that bacon is full of harmful fat and after all, if you are what you eat, who wants to be a PIG? But the facts are completely the opposite, as bacon helps to fully satiate our appetite with high protein / low carb energy, helping the body lose weight, raise one’s metabolism and build leaner, stronger muscles.
Bacon actually has less total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol than many popular cuts of beef and chicken. While some fish has less fat and cholesterol than bacon, bacon has more protein power and does not contain toxins such mercury.
Bacon’s Brain Building Business: Bacon is chock full of a very important nutrient called “choline,” which helps increase our intelligence and memory, from conception to Senior Status, and has been shown in University studies to help fight off the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s Disease and other chronic mental impairments.
Bacon Let’s You “Pig Out” On Essential Vitamins & Minerals: Bacon provides us with substantial amounts of the important, necessary vitamins and minerals our bodies need to function healthfully. From bacon, we receive: 65% of our Recommended Daily Intake of Thiamin (Vitamin B1) as well as 47% of our Niacin (Vitamin B3), 38% of our Vitamin B12, 36% of our Zinc, 24% of our Vitamin B6, 22% of our Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), 22% of our Phosphorus, 10% of our Pantothenate, 10% of our Magnesium, 9% of our Iron and the Protein to fat balance in bacon is actually 4 to 1, which is one of the highest protein to fat balances found in any meat, fish or fowl found on Earth.
Effective Mood Elevator: Bacon makes you feel happy, satisfied, blissful, which greatly reduces stress in our lives and effectively relieves the negative effects of frustration, self deprivation and sense of lack in ones existence.
Nitrates and Nitrites – Now Non-Issues: The fact is, while it is true that nitrates and nitrites are unhealthy for your body, what most pro -veggie, chicken and fish nutritionists fail to tell you is that you can easily avoid nitrates and nitrites by simply (A) not burning / charring / over cooking your bacon or by (B) Baking your bacon in the oven.
Some people also choose to avoid nitrates and nitrites by (C) cooking their bacon in the microwave, however, some medical research shows a strong correlation between micro-waved proteins (all meats and proteins, from beef to fish, from cheese to eggs and even milk) and cancers caused by protein mutation under the conditions of microwave bombardment, so we recommend using the oven, 400 degrees, 8 to 10 minutes per side.
P.S. if you always include some dairy and citrus in your bacon meal, the vitamins A, D and E work to effectively prevent conversion of “nitrates and nitrites into dangerously toxic “nitrosamines” in the stomach, rendering them harmless to the body.
Bacon Power Now Expands To Our Vehicles and Industry: Yes, believe it or not, a company in The United Kingdom, TMI Foods has already successfully found a way to use bacon fat / grease to manufacture a powerful, low emission, minimal pollution, environmentally friend, all-natural, bio-diesel fuel that can be used to effectively and inexpensively run anything from motor vehicles to turbines and from the various engines of industry to illuminating and empowering generators. That’s right … Pig Power now also means “Power To The People!”
Universally Beloved Flavor Enhancer: Because bacon tastes so amazingly awesome, we’re a LOT more willing to set many of our finicky ways aside to enthusiastically eat many of the boring, icky, lack-luster, “so called,” healthy, nutritious food items that are supposedly good for us, as long as they come wrapped in bacon or with lots of bacon bits broken up and served with or within them.
While We Heart Bacon – Bacon Heart’s Your Heart: While people over the years have mistakenly made jokes about bacon being a leading contributor to heart disease, actually there are in fact, several studies that show that the Omega-3 Fatty Acids and “choline” found in bacon can actually protect the heart from developing detrimental problems, as well as actually help HEAL such anomalies, after they have occurred!
Unlike the Omega-3 Fatty Acids supplements derived from fish sources, the one’s that come from bacon aren’t chock fully of poisonous mercury, like most of the popular fish oil versions are. So bacon Omega-3 can not only help prevent heart disease, as well as lower your cholesterol, reduce inflammation and improve circulation, but also help you to avoid mercury and other toxic poisons being regularly spewed in our planet’s oceans.

very interesting
Dears, wich Institute (University, Nutrition or Health) supports all these comments about bacon? We in Argentina have all years the aprobation on loin, ball of loin (a cut of the jam we name like)carré and rump with Fundación Cardiológica Argentina for the including in healthy heart diets.
The heart-healthy saturated fat in bacon is actually a good thing, so the third point isn’t really necessary. Or, maybe it should stress how MUCH delicious and healthy saturated fat is in it!
It’s actually better to eat more animal fat than animal muscle. The American Indians knew this and got worried any time hunting was poor and they had to rely on (lean) rabbit. To this day we call protein overdose “rabbit starvation”. There’s an article about it on Wikipedia if you’re interested.
By the way, not only is saturated fat good for you, but pork also contains monounsaturated fat, the same kind of fat that’s in olive oil. Although when they’ve bothered studying the issue, researchers have discovered that lard agrees better with people healthwise than olive oil does. Probably it’s the saturated fat, I’m guessing.
With the lack of excercise we have these days, we do not this needed fat. The American Indians were hunter-gatherers and needed this fat desperately for everyday use. These days, we could just go to the Cub Foods and buy almost anything. We also sit a lot or do nothing after work.

What about sodium levels though?
I agree with 99% of this post. I love bacon and am a huge proponent for eating lots of animal fats. I did see there was mention of high mercury levels in omega 3 fish oil pills. This is just not true. The oil is filtered to remove any mercury. Other than that this is a great post! Bacon on!
you are all sick. remember what pigs eat??????? and then you eat them.,i think if someone put enough PR EVERYWHERE you people would be so stupid youd eat waste products from them too.youre not supposed to eat pigs. period.
That’s why we breed pigs is to eat them. Nothing wrong with it and it’s healthy and yes we are made to eat them.

I don’t recommend eating much bacon. It is always cooked under high heat and this isn’t good for Omega 3 fat, it will reduce the amount. Commercial pig fat is loaded with environmental contaminants like xenoestrogens that add cellulite and flab. Fish oil capsules don’t have to have mercury, some are labelled “molecularly distilled” to remove any mercury. That is the best source.

to all the retards who say dont eat bacon becuase it has fat you really need to learn about nutrition. Explain this to me…why with our today’s technology, fat loss products, gymms and fat free foods are Americans the most out of shape we have ever been? HOw come our grandparents who ate butter, whole milke, bacon, eggs and whole cream were all lived prety good lives and werent over weight? Ill tell you becuase eating real foods with fats is normal. YOu think Animals in the wild worry about eating lean meats when they kill something? remember people were are animals too. Dietary supplement companies who makes billions packing “XYZ exzyme” into a bottle and saying it helps lose belly fat are another problem America is over weight. Eat Fat free and you will live longer! really?
I eat eggs, butter, bacon alot during the week for breakfast. i also eat avacado, oils, nuts for other fats. combine that with some proteins and carbs from veggies, fruit, potatoes and rice and im good to go. im about to turn 37..only work out 45 minutes 4 days a week and im 5ft 10 180 lbs lean. So for all the people who think eating bacon is bad..do some research. the body craves fat..animal fat. the same ignorant people who say bacon is bad becuase it has fat are teh same people who believe egg yolkds are bad becuase they have cholestrol. haha ok..the building block of life that are in the yolk are bad for you..ok. gotcha
Mike, you are totally right. Eating an avocado every day, eat lots of coconutoil, bacon, eggs and lost 20 pounds since day 1 and feeling good like I have never felt before, so much energy!!!!!
Listen…
I lost a ton of weight when I stopped dieting and just exercised and watched portion sizes! Almost effortlessly in the first few months I might add. Motivated by this I began calorie counting and the diet mentality started to creep back in. NO FAT, NO SUGAR, NO CARBS..depending on the day and what some dumb magazine or internet article like this one said!! After losing 70 pounds I was in starvation mode! I used bacon fat/butter periodically in my daily calories during plateaus along my journey after listening to a medical student explain lipids(fats) effect of thyroid function in anorexia patients. Almost immediately after tossing my PAM spram aside and adding just a little dab of bacon fat to whatever pan i was using two things happened. My hair stopped falling out and I had energy again to do my workouts. And Yes… I was eating enough calories. Our bodies need fats including the saturated type for metabolic processes like hormone hunger responses. When we don’t get enough fat and have been in a calorie deficit our thyroids sends messages to other hormones to go catabolic holding on to fat restores while burning protein stores (muscle). I can really go on and on how bacon fat has helped me. I use bacon fat, butter and olive oil. I don’t deep fry. I never cook with olive oil because it’s smoke point is horrid. Canola oil isn’t real it’s engineered. When have you ever heard of a canola plant??
Not to detract from most of your points, but you are wrong about Canola Oil – it is very real: the oil is derived from “Rapeseed” – a plant in the mustard family.

Bacon I love you
For all of you bacon and pork lovers out there. You all need to spend about a month on a hog farm. I guarantee you’ll never eat pork again. You’re being lied to by the pork industry and the gov’t. The book of Leviticus is very clear about the prohibition against pork and it’s for our own good that we might live a disease free life.
Leviticus??? That’s the book that says it’s permitted to sell your daughter into slavery and to kill someone who wears cotton/wool blend clothing. Hardly a code to live by.
Its hard to take your article seriously when it is full of grammatical errors. Your writer needs to know the difference between a contraction and a possession.
It’s “Bacon LETS you pig out,” not let’s.
It’s “Bacon HEARTS your heart,” not heart’s.
Sorry, but you’ve just lost your credibility.
Tammy… You are a c**t. Take your stupid grammar-nazi head and shove it up your a**. People who point out useless errors in writing are just weird. Who gives a bacon bit if you know the laws of writing. His article was fine and I’m sure 99.99% of the readers were not aggravated with these errors. Oh, and remember that criticizing someone’s work doesn’t mean you have a skill.
I hope you find a talent,
Hugh Jass
James here has some anger issues. Calm down little boy. Tammy is not a grammar nazi. As a writer, I’d lose my job if I spelled at a 3rd grade level. So what are you gonna do now? Call me the c word to make yourself feel better? Lol
LOL! I just needed to point out that You are one hundred percent right:)
Omg Einstein had used bad grammar once, he has no credibility because of it. So the theory of relativity must be wrong or at least have no credibility. That’s the logic as i see it from Tammy. Hay Tammy me rites good. How u like me now.
You wouldn’t happen to have an agenda would you? sheesh
Unfortunately, bacon doesn’t have a lot of good nutritional value. It does contain some choline, which is needed for brain health, and some monounsaturated fatty acids, which are good for you, but it’s also high in the saturated fats that are associated with cardiovascular diseases, as well as sodium, which can be a problem for some people who have high blood pressure. As far as calories, one typical strip of bacon has about 40, which isn’t bad, but the calories can add up quickly when you eat multiple pieces.
Fried bacon also has more heterocyclic amines than any other meat. Heterocyclic amines are associated with an increased risk of some forms of cancer. It’s a processed meat so bacon has added flavorings and preservatives, such as sodium nitrite, which may also be linked to a greater risk of some types of cancer.
I never knew bacon could be so much better than just its delicious taste

I like bacon !!
Hi, I too like bacon a lot I would say 90/95% of people do its tastes unreal smells heavenly etc ( I don’t buy the whole god pigs stand in thier own poo) that’s churlish at best, but I will say that to get the best benefits it’s wise to choose a good quality bacon from a farm if possible (organic) where lots less nitrates are used ( steer clear of sodium nitrate) instead a little potassium nitrate is a healthier preservative . It’s the same with any animal let it contain no rubbish(organic) naturally fed and a wholesome animal( not from the super market ) or not so super market , any who saturated fat is good for you it’s sugar or poison ( unless from raw honey or fruit) you need go be scared of .
Oh and processed foods in general
