Oh, Turbaconducken, we knew you had legs.

When BT writer Corey James created the Turbaconducken last Thanksgiving he had a feeling that it was going to strike a chord, but he never anticipated the high value that it would eventually obtain.

Michelle Malkin of TownHall.com recently wrote a story about the much ballyhooed economic stimulus bill that has been floating around congress for the past month or so. Her article discusses the many “pork-filled” earmarks that are attached to the bill and have been the focus of much debate in our government, on the news and online.

Her article, titled “The ‘Tiny’ Trillion-Dollar Turbaconducken You Don’t Care About” contains the following quote:

“If the stimulus plan were a Thanksgiving dinner entree, it would be a Turbaconducken — the heart attack-inducing dish of roasted chicken stuffed inside a duck stuffed inside a turkey, all wrapped in endless slabs of bacon.”

Yes, Friends, the glorious Turbaconducken now has a trillion dollar price tag. If you were planning to have one of your own next Thanksgiving, you’d better start saving now.

– Mr. B

People always ask us why we have a daily news publication dedicated to bacon. Yes faithful readers, there are those folks among us that just don’t understand the importance of this glorious meat. We generally point them first to our Why Bacon page and if they still don’t get it then we try with all our might to resist the urge to slap them upside the head with a 1 lb. pack of applewood smoked.

With the growing popularity of Bacon Today we now have alternative options of informing the BT-unawares (other than resorting to pork-laden violence). We’ve got publicity! Here’s just a few of the mentions we’ve recieved this past week.

We were interviewed for a story published in the Sunday, February 15 edition of the Toronto Star newspaper

Our own creation and internet sensation “Turbaconducken” was featured on ABC TV in Australia on the game show Spicks & Specs

Speaking of Turbaconducken, it appears that we’ve officially entered the hallowed halls of pop culture as conservative columnist and Fox News contributor Michelle Malkin used our little creation as a metaphor for the U.S. government’s economic stimulus package. In her article “The Tiny Trillion-Dollar Turbaconducken You Don’t Care About” she stated:
“If the stimulus plan were a Thanksgiving dinner entree, it would be a Turbaconducken — the heart attack-inducing dish of roasted chicken stuffed inside a duck stuffed inside a turkey, all wrapped in endless slabs of bacon.”

Oh, and as of this writing there are over 40,000 references on Google to “trillion-dollar turbaconducken”. How cool is that?

Thanks to all the loyal readers of Bacon Today. Its you folks that make this all worth while. Well, you & bacon.

–Mr. B.

BT was recently written up in the Daily Trojan.

Apparently, bacon is quite popular on college campuses across the country. It’s invigorating to see our next generation of leaders expressing such a love for the candy of meats.

Special thanks go out to reporter Michelle Ragsdale, who realized the important role that Bacon Today plays in the global community and chose to spread the word to all the dedicated USC students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Our favorite bit is near the end of the article. Michell writes, “Whether an avid bacon lover, an occasional dabbler or completely inexperienced in the delicious power of bacon, bacontoday.com guarantees news you’ve most likely never heard before…”

We couldn’t agreee more.

Fight On for bacon!

We got a nice write up in the October 14 Los Angeles issue of Thrillist. You should check out their daily list and subscribe. Good stuff (I mean c’mon, they like BACON!).

Here’s the article:

—–

THRILLIST Los Angeles
Tuesday Oct 14, 2008

Bacon Today

The 24-hour news cycle’s adept at overwhelming you with politics, the economy, and kidnappings of attractive people, but can it keep you up-to-date on the most crucial topic of all, sizzling breakfast meat? Now it can, with Bacon Today.

Thrillist – Bacon TodayBacon Today’s a regularly updated piggy news center, set up like a legit CNN-style site with categories like Economics, Entertainment, and “Bacon Around Town”; the idea was hatched by an Orange County cinematographer and a jazz webcaster whose Love Supreme is clearly not kosher. The duo both trolls the web and creates their own content, with items ranging from anti-pork-barrel activists sending Ohio congressman John Boehner raw bacon (“The Boehner Bacon Scare“), to film-set catering tables brimming with the good stuff (“Bacon Goes Hollywood“), to the authors’ own attempt at vigilante justice (smuggling bacon into In-N-Out). On the lifestyle side, there’s the innovative Smaste index (a trademarked formula hybridizing smell & taste), plus a slew of recipes, most awesomely bacon-laced cinnamon rolls, Bacon Diet Coke, and serving bowls made entirely of bacon, which you would presumably put bacon in, or possibly potpourri.

To bring in the man on the street (you), there’s also a hotline with a jaunty theme song where readers can drop tips and thoughts, the best of which’ll be posted online as MP3s. Unfortunately, this level of bacon integration will ensure that, when you get kidnapped, the story will remain relatively hush-hush.

Mmmm, unexplained bacon: BaconToday.com

—–

This morning the Portland Mercury did a great write up on Bacon Today. Patrick Alan Coleman, a regular food writer for the paper, said some great things about Bacon Today. He did, however, make one faux pas. Mr. Coleman stated that Bacon Today author (and head chef) Mike Kirsch was in fact Mr. B — that the two men are one and the same.

Well my bacon-loving friends, we realized soon after reading Mr. Coleman’s great article that we really haven’t given Mr. B. his due here at Bacon Today. In fact, we’ve recently decided to step up our promotional efforts and give you all a better idea of just who Mr. B. is and why we formed Bacon Today in his honor. To learn more about Mr. B. and the history of Bacon Today, Read this interview I recently gave to fellow baconophile (the one and only “Bacon Freak“) Rocco Loosbrock for News Blaze.

On a side note…we encourage you to read more articles by writer Patrick Alan Coleman. He’s a pretty honest food critic in the Portland aread and a darn good writer. And no, he didn’t pay us to say that
