Bacon Pineapple Pizza at the Capri

A recent trip to Superior, WI provided an unexpected bacon experience. We stopped at Vintage Italian Pizza (VIP), which is connected to the Capri bar and grabbed a bacon & pineapple pizza.

The pie arrived not long after we ordered and was steaming hot. Complimented by a pitcher of tasty beer the pizza really hit the spot. If you’re ever in the Superior, WI area and have a bacon craving, swing by VIP & the Capri to get your fix.

On a side note, my buddy Matt debuted his latest concoction – the BeerMosa. Similar to the traditional champagne/orange juice Mimosa found on so many a Sunday brunch, this drink is simple…beer & OJ. Give it a shot. Matt promises it’s excellent.

First of all, I need to throw props out to This Is Why You’re Fat, who has given us the inspiration for more than one of our stories. The homepage image we showed you was of a bacon cheese pizza burger that they featured a while back.

But it was really BT reader Jeff B. who made us realize that we needed to write an article about not just one bacon item, but two in one day. You see, a couple of weeks ago, Jeff sent us this email…

******

Hey writers of Bacon Today,

I’m a big fan of your site, I’ve been checking it regularly for quite some time now, but I wanted to give a bit of feedback. Two or three times recently the post has not been about awesome things involving bacon, but somewhat random news involving pigs, usually with a picture of a cute little piglet as a header. I am in no way a guilty meat-eater, but the recent frequency when you’ve talked more about cute pigs than how delicious their meat is when cooked is a little off-putting.

******

So we took his feedback and changed accordingly. Since getting his email, we have featured bacon far more than pigs. But we also stand behind our piggy stories. You can’t have bacon without pigs. Also, it’s undeniable that pigs are uber cute.

So here’s our unofficial contract. We will keep writing about bacon. And pigs. And you’ll keep loving us.

It’s a good deal, right?

Of course, if you’d like to submit your own bacon article when you feel as though we have wandered too far from the righteous path of bacon, just email it to bacontoday [at] gmail [dot] com. We will gladly post your article.

Just to show we still think bacon is the best, I’m going to write about a second bacon pizza item. This one, from metrobloggen, features the 7 lb. pizza with 4.5 inches of toppings. And what’s more – there are TWO bacon layers – not just one! Yes, two layers of REAL bacon!

You’ve got to go to the site to truly appreciate the awesome excess of this DEEP dish pizza.

CPK Chicken and Bacon Flatbread Pizza

Had this quick and tasty little bit-o-bacon-love last night.

It cost $3.

It took 3 minutes to cook.

I ate it in about 3 bites. (Okay, not really, but I had to keep with the theme of 3′s.)

You just micro it on the little silver tray and then fold it in half to make a little bacon flatbread foldover.

A Picture Perfect Pizza

A Picture Perfect Pizza

Anyone who was watching cheesy movies in the mid-90s probably remembers Sandra Bullock ordering a pizza from her computer in The Net. A pizza?!?! From the internet?!?! WOW!!!! I can’t wait to do that! Now I can get totally fat and lazy. Now if only there were a way to get music and movies from the internet, too. (But I digress.)

Internet pizza ordering turned out to be one of those movie inventions that actually came into being and has been around for a while now. Today, though, I learned that it has risen to new heights over at Domino’s Pizza. You see, I tend to get really involved in my work. Most days, I’ll forget to have lunch and realize in a fit of rage at about 3:00 that I’m really hungry. Today was no different – but Jonathan saved the day. You see, he was hungry, too, and suggested that we order a pizza – from the internet. He said that Domino’s had a deal where you could get three pizzas for $4 each. Since he wanted to eat one for lunch and have another to take home, that meant that I could order a $4 pizza for lunch.

I went to the computer to decide what I would get on my pizza and the first thing I noticed was that Domino’s has a whole new ordering system. Not only can you specify any topping you want, but their online ordering system actually shows you a picture of what your pizza is going to look like when it gets to your door. Mine, of course, was going to have bacon on it.

Once you actually place the order, the customer experience gets really cool. Domino’s has this thing called the Pizza Tracker and it, well, tracks your pizza through the entire process from order to prep, right through the oven and into the delivery vehicle. It even asks you if you liked your pizza once you got it and makes sure that you didn’t have any trouble, plus it gives you the chance to provide feedback.

In a world where user feedback is key to a company’s success, this is one company that has it nailed.

Way to go, Domino’s. And kudos for keeping bacon on your menu as a topping even though many other pizza joints have dropped it off.
