H1N1 Pumpkin

This one dates back to Halloween, but it’s worth a look, especially since we don’t feel like waiting another 10 months before we can show you this awesome picture. Someone, somewhere, carved up a pumpkin for their office halloween party and was inspired by the H1N1 Influenza-A virus that has been spreading our country.

It’s creative, for sure. And it must have taken a lot of good creativity.

The only issue we take with it is that (and we have been over this before) it’s called H1N1 Influenza-A. Don’t call it swine flu! What did swine ever do to you other than provide you with delicious, delicious bacon?

Don’t Call it Swine Flu (H1N1 influenza A)

A world crisis is underway and many people are referring to it as “Swine Flu”. The Bacon Today team has resisted this subject for as long as possible, but we must now bring to your attention this message from the World Health Organization (WHO):

“Rather than calling this swine flu … we’re going to stick with the technical scientific name H1N1 influenza A.”

That statement was made by WHO spokesperson Dick Thompson who also noted that both the agriculture industry and the U.N. food agency have expressed concerns that using the term “swine flu” has misled consumers and has also caused some countries to ban pork products and order the slaughter of pigs.

Though the virus originated in pigs, the virus is not spread by eating pork. Egypt has started to slaughter nearly 300,000 pigs even as local farmers protested the Egyptian government’s order. This waste of pork is sad and unnecessary.

Human deaths from H1N1 influenza A are tragic and must support all agencies working on antiviral cures to this terrible pandemic. As bacon lovers, we should also look to the pigs and consider their best interest. Don’t blame the pigs for H1N1!
