You may remember Scott’s last epic burger challenge at The Counter. Well, this week he was at it again and about 10 folks came along to witness the event (and eat some tasty burgers at The Counter).

Look at that burger. Bask in it’s glorious girth. Soak in the amazing awe-inspiring awesomeness.
That’s one pound of all-beef patties, one-pound of chicken breasts, one pound of turkey patties, and for garnish…one pound of veggie patties. Mixed amongst the patties were strips of thick, crisp bacon.
The 10 of us who descended upon The Counter to watch Scott take down another monster burger ordered some pretty tasty burgers ourselves. Those among us who had our burgers built with bacon were extremely impressed with the meat candy’s quality, flavor and presentation. Take a look at a few examples of other bacon burgers consumed during Scott’s challenge:

Unfortunately, I had to leave a bit early and didn’t get to witness the end of Scott’s amazing burger challenge. When I left the burger was well on it’s way to being only a memory, although I heard rumors that this challenge might have been just a bit too much of a good thing for Scott to finish. Even if he didn’t complete the entire meal, it was a valiant effort for certain.

For his efforts, Scott was rewarded with a nifty polo shirt from The Counter. I’m sure he’ll wear it proudly when he takes on the next bacon-infused eating challenge.

Six all-beef patties and plenty of bacon. That’s the way to start an amazing meal.
Scott was at it again this week, taking on another daunting food challenge. This time his target was the Fatburger Triple King Challenge — the largest burger offered at the Fatburger chain with triple the burger patties stuffed inside.
Since he had already polished off the Fatburger Triple King before, Scott decided he needed to take it a step further. Being a bacon fan, adding meat candy is a must. Not only did he add the bacon however, he also multiplied the Fatburger Triple King by 2 — making it a six-pattie burger that stood nearly half a foot tall!
You may remember Scott from his recent food challenge at The Counter burger joint. Well, his reputation as a standout competitive eater is growing and he’s up for just about anything. He took this double triple king burger and cleaned up every last bite. In fact, he even saved a piece of bacon to use as a scoop to make sure he got every last morsel of tastey goodness.
Take a look at the image gallery and see for yourself what a $20 hamburger meal is made of. Scott, once again we salute you.

Today the office gauntlet was thrown down and the chosen competitor was once again our good buddy Scott (the guy who eats spam with bacon a whole can at a time).
The mission: A massive menagerie of burger fixings at The Counter restaurant
The ingredients: Just about everything the restaurant could stack on the burger, including tasty bacon of course
The cost: around $30 for a single hamburger
The deal: If Scott finished the burger in one hour or less, he didn’t have to pay for the meal
The result: Scott did in fact finish the massive bacon-rich burger in only 32 minutes and left the restaurant with both a full stomach and a full wallet
Amazingly, Scott said he felt fine after finishing the meal and successfully completing the challenge. He gave the bacon a Smaste™ rating of 38.542, a very high mark especially since the meat candy was competing against so many other flavors in the burger.
The staff at The Counter was quite impressed with Scott’s acheivement. The chefs, manager, all the wait staff…they all came over to congratulate Scott on a job well done. The Bacon Today staff follows suit and salutes Scott and his efforts.
Next week’s event — the Fatburger Triple King Challenge. Wish us luck.

Recently, a well-known animal rights organization held a contest. The two winners of that contest each won trips to Hawaii. What was the name of the contest?
“Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door 2009”
Now Amber, from Minnetonka, Minnesota and Monty from Los Angeles, California will be on their way to the tropical islands of Hawaii, where they will miss out on such great bacon as that found at the aptly named Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea where “the bacon was not 2 strips, or 3 or 5, it was a large mound!”
Poor Amber and Monty, maybe you two can sneak off and take a secret taste of some crispy, salty meat candy when no one is looking.
Maybe we should start a sexiest bacon lover contest. What do you think? What would the prizes be? How should we judge?

On Saturday, March 21, 2009, we attended the very first Baconcamp. This un-conference was held in the spirit of Barcamp and was attended by a wide range of bacon lovers from all over the place.
I’m borrowing a bit from Scott Kveton’s recap of the event (and using some of his super cool photos too), so thanks to Scott and all the folks at Bacn.com for that and working hard to put on a great event.
Mike & I sat on the panel of celebrity judges for the food+bacon portion of Baconcamp. Joining us were (listed by Twitter name) @iamcal, @arielwaldman, @micahsaul, Otto Von Danger (founder of BaconFest), and @kveton. Our Twitter name is @bacontoday in case you were wondering. With over 40 bacon-related dishes to sample, it was a long and bacony journey and very difficult to keep sharp on our scoring as we neared bacon coma.
We’ll list all the bacon dishes in a later article. For now, we’ll just list the winners. Quoting from Scott Kveton’s recap:
“The audience was given 3 votes which they could put towards the “Best Overall” and we recognized those with “Grand Prize” and “Runner-up” trophies.
- Grand Prize: Maker’s Mark Ice Cream – @mooflyfoof
- Runner-up: Chicken-fried Bacon – mp
The judges also had a few prizes they wanted to hand out based on the dishes we all sampled:
- Judges Choice: The Bacone – Christian from Wikia
- Judges Choice Runner-up: Potato bacon tart
- Best presentation: Maple Bacon Lollipop
- Most scientific: Bacon Hyper-cube
- Most likely to tempt a veggie: Bacon hummus
- Best Soup: Bacon Pea Soup – @oznog
- Best effort, worst food: Bacon Brownies (hint: don’t mention poop during your preso)”
That ought to whet your bacappetites just enough for now. Check back soon for more updates and our video documenting the event titled “24 Hours of Bacon”.
