Yoders Bacon in a Can – The Campsite Experience

This weekend a bunch of buddies and I took a motorcycle camping trip to the crew-4Sequoia National Forest. It was an epic journey that I never knew would result in a bikes & bacon trip but let me tell you — the campsite got extra baconony when I busted out the Yoders canned bacon.

Much to my surprise, the fellas stuck the Yoders bacon in a can on the grill and heated it up. Prior to that day I had only tried Yoders canned bacon straight out of the can at room temperature.

Let me tell you, the heated bacon in a can was stellar. Warming up the bacon made it even more tasty than I knew it could be. Everyone in the campsite loved the canned bacon and the campsite neighbors even came over to give it a try.

The campsite Smaste™ rating for Yoder’s bacon in a can: 41.233. Even higher than our previous rating!

Yoder’s Bacon in a Can: May the Pork Be With You

If you’re a faithful bacon follower then by now you have certainly heard of Bacon in a Can. Since Bacon Today is the most trusted name in bacon news (according to a non-scientific survey of myself), the kind folks at MRE Depot saw fit to send us a case of the stuff.

Like you, we were skeptical at first. We decided to try one can to see how it would go. Check out the photo gallery below for the full experience.

Upon opening the can, I found three sheets of bacon tightly rolled. As I pulled them out of the can I noticed that they were exceptionally greasy – they’re packed in a large amount of lard. Upon unrolling them, the top layer was folded in half. Once I unfolded that layer the bacon looked fairly appetizing.

I tasted a piece right off the waxed paper and was pleasantly surprised. It’s not great, but it is very edible.

I decided that some heat might make the difference, so I microwaved a couple of slices for 30 seconds. After blotting away the grease, I had another bite and found the bacon to be quite good. Not as salty as I typically care for, but still good.

My last experiment was to put the bacon on a slice of DiGiorno pizza. Unfortunately, the lack of salty flavor resulted in the bacon disappearing into the taste of the pizza.

For any of its drawbacks, this is a quality product. It’s ready to eat out of the can. The taste improves with heat. Most importantly, it’s easily portable, so you can take it with you wherever you go. Buy a can of bacon and see for yourself.

Smaste™ out of can: 31.115

Smaste™ with heat: 33.602

Smaste™ on pizza: 28.529

Bacon in a Can

You’ve heard of the old cliche “the best thing since sliced bread”. You know that sliced bread is pretty damn fantastic. But behold my bacon loving friends…one item may just live in infamy as the greatest product of all time.

BACON IN A CAN!!!

Imagine the ozone layer finally dissipates into nothing, or an atomic bomb forces the survivors to live underground. You’ll be bored, tired, and most of all hungry. You’ll want bacon but a supermarket is no where to be found. What will you do?

You’ll reach for a can opener and a can of Yoders Canned Bacon of course! Available exclusively at MRE Depot where the slogan is “When disaster strikes the time to prepare has passed!” We couldn’t agree more. I’m ordering a case today so I’m not without bacon tomorrow…or ever.
