Review of Kettle Chips Maple Bacon Potato Chips


I was beyond excited to try Kettle Chips new “Maple Bacon” potato chips. I’m a fan of Kettle Chips anyway as I love a thick, hearty, extra-crunchy potato chip, and I’ve never met one of their unusual flavors that I wasn’t a fan of. You gotta give high marks to Kettle Chips for their innovation, and the new “Maple Bacon” flavor took months to develop.

The first thing that hit me when opening the bag was the smoky aroma. The chips definitely capture the smoky smell of bacon and I could taste the smokiness in my first bite. The other two distinctive flavors are sweet and spicy, the sweetness slightly stronger than the spiciness. However, I couldn’t detect the unique flavor of maple syrup. And the only “bacon” flavor comes from the smokiness.

Are they delicious? Yes. Do they taste like bacon and maple? Not really. Am I willing to suspend disbelief and plow through half a bag of these in one sitting? Sure! As I was “sampling” them (i.e. shoveling ’em in my face), I found myself craving some sort of bacon chip dip that I could dip them into.

What’s also impressive is that Kettle Chips are GMO-free, have no MSG or gluten, and are safe for people with peanut allergies. They’ll make their summer debut at natural grocery stores like Whole Foods, and eventually find their way into most supermarkets.
