Happy Easter… and Here’s Why

Happy Easter, baconites!

It’s time for another wonderful religious celebration that brings along with it a fine tradition of celebratory eats.

It’s a little known fact that an Easter backet in Poland contains plentiful portions of smoked bacon! The Polish basket, in fact, contains several lesser-known items that may just tickle your fancy (or your tastebuds).  Accoridng to Emily Kesten of the Southwest Iowa News, there are a lot of Easter traditions that we may not all be familiar with tonight. In her article she shares,

A Polish Easter basket contains maslo (butter) shaped into a lamb or cross, babka (Easter bread) shaped as a cross or fish…  smoked bacon… and cheese.

That’s one Easter tradition I’m looking forward to.

Emily’s article also discusses some of the origins of many of our other more (and less) familiar Easter traditions.

This day was indeed bacon day for me as well. Lent had to be a sacrifice that would really hurt me, and our favourite porcine product got the chop. 4 meals of bacon and counting!
