The fastest trek across Antarctica to the South Pole was completed by three Canadian men on January 7, 2009. Ray Zahab, Kevin Vallely and Richard Weber finished the trip in 33 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes (a total of 1,130 km – about 700 miles – was traveled).
“They say they suffered white-out but survived on a high-calorie diet of deep-fried bacon, cheese and butter” stated BBC.com. The journey began at the Hercules Inlet on Antarctica’s Ronne Ice Shelf and continued to the South Pole.
The men used satellite phones to record audio and GPS devices to allow people to track their progress. Listen to their final celebratory audio recording.
This historic event is further proof that with bacon, anything is possible. Congratulations to our Canadian bacon lovers and their monumental trek with bacon as their salty fuel.

I get the bacon and cheese… but butter? Did they just eat sticks of butter?

mmm… bacon and sticks of butter. I went on an all-meat diet a few years ago (ok, about 80% meat, the rest was mostly eggs, cheese, ice cream and tortillas) and I felt great. Not that I wanted to go to the end of the world to prove my love of bacon, but good enough to consider it. I like my bacon dripping with it’s own juices. Juices don’t drip in sub-arctic temperatures, though. I’ll eat my bacon in Kentucky instead.
