Weekends are made for breakfast. Sunday morning is usually the one morning during the week that I actually have (or make) the time to go to the store, buy some bacon, eggs, fruit, bread or pancake mix and cook up a real breakfast. It’s a great meal, and it always includes bacon.
I had to go into the office on a recent Sunday, which precluded me from performing my normal breakfast routine. I grabbed my camera and hopped into my car; my stomach and morale both growling loudly. My office is in a corporate building blackout zone, with very few food options in the vicinity and even fewer that are actually open on Sunday.
Carl’s Jr. won the contest that day. I pulled into the drive thru line, looking forward to ordering some french toast sticks with a medium diet coke – my standard CJ’s breakfast meal. I missed my bacon, though. I really wanted some bacon. And suddenly, there it was, staring at me from the breakfast menu.
I don’t know if the Breakfast Burger is a new item or if I’ve just overlooked it all these years. It’s mostly standard breakfast fare – bacon, eggs, hash browns, ketchup, bun-shaped bread – with one notable difference in the form of a hamburger patty. I didn’t know what to think at first. I’ll admit I was a little scared of combining fast food hamburger meat with hash browns, but the bacon looked tasty and I figured that it was probably tasty and that at the very least I would get a good article out of the experience.

The hash browns soaked up a lot of the flavor of the hamburger and the bacon, but overall the sandwich was great! It had a really nice texture and while it was a touch on the bland side, a few extra packets of ketchup would have made everything alright.
I applaud Carl’s Jr. for their unique breakfast combination.
